The triple world champion on sports gymnastics, the American Kurt Thomas died at the age of 64 years, reports AP. On may 24 he suffered a stroke. Kurt Thomas was the first American gymnast-a man who won a gold medal at the world Championships in the floor exercise in 1978 in Strasbourg. He was a contender for an Olympic medal in 1980, but then the United States boycotted the Olympic games in Moscow.It is named after the two gymnastic exercises — “circles of Thomas” (acrobatic exercise on horseback) and the “Thomas Salto” (single grouped back flip, turning into a half somersault flip). In 2003 he was inducted into the international gymnastics hall of fame.
