Dierk Hirschel, ver.di chief economist and ex-candidate for the SPD federal presidency, described the “Kahrs system” on Twitter. The party left experienced Kahrs in Hamburg – and says that this was never about social democracy, but only about “expanding his power”.
The insights are deep, which the SPD man Dierk Hirschel shares on Twitter. Internals that describe Johannes Kahrs’ power behavior and clearly identify dubious transactions.
Hirschel himself was active in the Hamburg Jusos in the 1990s and observed right-wing Juso currents that were “steered” by Kahrs, according to his thread.
In it he speaks of “anti-democratic methods” used by Kahrs confidants. They are said to have “systematically manipulated the composition of voters by changing their place of residence”. Kahrs operated “essentially favoritism,” says Hirschel.
Kahrs has built up a “loyal following” through internships, party and MP office jobs. When he sat in the Bundestag, these were strengthened by “party donations from the armaments industry, real estate, transport and finance sectors,” writes the verdi man. Around 640,000 euros between 2016 and 2019 are said to have been flushed into the coffers of the Hamburg district association. Striking: “There was always a temporal connection to the award of public contracts to the donors,” writes Hirschel on Twitter.

Hirschel Kahrs also accuses that his political career has never been about social democracy, but always about “expanding his power”.
There were serious allegations of bullying against Kahrs around 30 years ago. The then 22-year-old is said to have terrorized the Juso boss Silke Dose when she called: “I’ll get you, bitch,” he is said to have said. The police caught him with a trap circuit. But that hardly had any consequences.
Hirschel notes: “In the early 1990s, the great opportunity to expel Kahrs from the party for bullying was missed for the first time. But he was forgiven for this “sinful youth.”

After that, Kahrs became one of the most powerful politicians in Germany. Many joined him. The party left also concluded a “truce” with him, according to Hirschel: “A big political mistake! The most recent revelations about the Kahrs system are now falling on the feet of the SPD in Hamburg.
