According to calculations by Verivox, gas prices have already risen by 159 percent year-on-year. And that’s without the fee. The energy price comparison portal assumes that the prices will triple with the surcharge.
The energy price comparison portal Verivox expects gas prices to triple compared to the previous year with the levy announced by Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. According to calculations by Verivox, gas prices have already risen by 159 percent year-on-year without a surcharge, as the company explained to the “Augsburger Allgemeine” (Saturday edition).
For a family with a gas consumption of 20,000 kilowatt hours, there are already additional costs of 1,963 euros compared to the gas prices of a year ago. “If the two cents per kilowatt hour announced by Chancellor Scholz were added, we would currently be at €3,599 – the increase would be 191 percent,” the company explained.
According to Verivox, the average family would have to pay 2363 euros more for their annual gas consumption compared to the previous year. With an annual consumption of 20,000 kilowatt hours for a four-person household, this would mean additional costs of 400 euros due to the surcharge.

Every fifth person in Germany (22.4 percent) has too little money to be able to afford a week’s vacation once a year. In the key issues paper, the Bundestag faction calls for five short-term measures: Anyone who does not have enough money to make higher advance payments or additional payments should not simply be allowed to be dismissed. Landlords should also receive support.
