Material bottlenecks and delivery problems continue to burden the German automotive industry: In the first half of this year, almost 1.24 million new vehicles were registered, as the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) announced on Tuesday as part of its half-year report. The sales of electric cars, which have risen sharply for years, are now faltering again and again. According to the KBA, 12.5 percent more battery cars were put on the road in the first six months than in the same period last year. But with a view to June, the authority recorded a decline. Just over 32,200 purely electric cars were newly registered last month, 3.5 percent fewer than in June last year.
It is already the second month-on-month decline this year. New registrations of electric drives were also down in April.
Among German brands, Mercedes was able to increase the number of new vehicles registered in June by 9.5 percent compared to the same month last year. For all other brands, the numbers were down. Porsche and BMW, among others, drove a minus of 3.5 percent and 9.8 percent. At VW there were even 24 percent fewer new registrations.
