First of all, it should only be tested: In the second half of the tennis season, the ATP Tour allows coaches to be actively coached during games. However, there are certain conditions for this.
Coaches will soon be able to intervene: after Wimbledon, the ATP tour will start a test phase lasting several months with a new rule: coaching will then be allowed in the game. Under certain conditions, which are listed by “MyTennis”, players can then have their coaches help them during matches.
Short, compact, clear
Specific conditions for coaching: The coaches must be seated in a fixed position that is clearly visible from the referee’s chair. Verbal communication may only take place when one’s own player is on the coach’s side of the court. No interventions are allowed during the rally, not even if a player leaves the field – for example after an injury or to go to the toilet.
Possibility to cheat: “MyTennis” considers the idea “not yet fully developed” as it allows for discretion and “possible tricks and discussions”. “However, ATP seems to have recognized the importance of coaching.”
