Rosie Flores, a talented musician hailing from San Antonio, has been captivating audiences with her music for over 50 years. She has dabbled in various music genres such as rockabilly, country, and punk rock throughout her career.
Flores discovered her passion for music at a young age and quickly learned to play the rhythm guitar in her teens. After her family moved to San Diego, she formed her first band, Rosie and The Screamers, during high school. She honed her skills in the local nightclub scene, sharing the stage with prominent acts like Los Lobos and Lucinda Williams.
Apart from her solo work, Flores has been a part of several music groups including the Screamin’ Sirens, an all-female cowpunk band, and Las Super Tejanas, a Latina collective of musicians and mariachis. With a total of thirteen solo albums under her belt, starting from her self-titled debut in 1987 to her latest release “Simple Case of the Blues” in 2019, Flores has established herself as a prolific artist.
In recognition of her contributions to the rockabilly genre, Flores was honored with a Peabody Award in 2007 for her narration in the documentary “Whole Lotta Shakin'” produced by KCRW. This year, she was selected as a National Heritage fellow by the National Endowment for the Arts, further solidifying her legacy in the music industry.
Fans of Rosie Flores can catch her live performance this Friday at KUTX’s Rock the Park event, where she will be taking the stage at 6:30 p.m. followed by San Gabriel.
