Because he felt disturbed, a homeless man in Düsseldorf is said to have killed a 23-year-old bargeman from Bavaria with a bollard. An arrest warrant for manslaughter had been issued against the 55-year-old, investigators reported on Monday. The act was preceded by a dispute on Saturday night (June 11, 2022).
Further details will come to light on Tuesday, as reported by the local newspaper “Express”: Around 12:30 a.m., passers-by heard heavy, dull knocks from the direction of the crime scene on a construction site at Ratinger Tor. As they approached, they saw a scene worse than a horror movie, the report said.
According to this, the 55-year-old is said to have hit the blood-covered victim lying on the ground as if out of his mind. To do this, he took a bollard weighing around 14 kilograms that was lying on the construction site. The forces of the local fire station were able to hold the bat and prevent him from escaping. The 23-year-old bargeman died at the scene of the accident. He is said to have been on shore leave before the crime and passed the homeless person’s sleeping quarters at the Ratinger Tor.
According to his own first statement, the 55-year-old stated that he felt disturbed by the man. There is no evidence of alcohol consumption in either the victim or the suspect. The 23-year-old victim comes from the Main-Spessart district in Lower Franconia. It is unclear whether the homeless person has a mental illness. Psychological support was offered to the witnesses.
