Hours after the standoff started, an unresponsive driver was taken from the van.
According to reports, a standoff between police and Beverly Hills ended just before midnight Saturday. SWAT officers removed an unresponsive man from a van which had blocked a busy intersection for several hour.
Police stated that officers responded to a call about a van causing traffic problems in the area.
Officers tried to contact the driver but he eventually stopped at Rodeo Drive and Wilshire Boulevard, a popular tourist area. Soon the driver was surrounded by police cars .
According to the Beverly Hills Police Department, at least one person was in the van. It appeared that its windows were covered with aluminum foil.
KNBC TV Los Angeles reported that officers shot through the windows of the van and used a drone and robot to try to get the driver out. The driver’s fate was not immediately known.
During the standoff, police closed Wilshire between Beverly Drive & Camden Drive. This area would have been crowded with Black Friday weekend shoppers.
