Panic on the train! An ICE with around 600 passengers on the route between Hamburg and Bremen stopped on the road due to a technical defect and a subsequent power outage. On Monday afternoon, the train came to a standstill about 1.5 kilometers from Lauenbrück train station (Lower Saxony) due to a fire alarm.
Due to the power outage, the air conditioning and toilets in the carriages were out of order. The doors were opened to ensure air circulation. However, the high outside temperatures of 25 degrees and the sunlight caused the almost full train to heat up quickly.
The train attendants handed out water to passengers, but due to the heat, passengers drank so much non-alcoholic drinks from the on-board restaurant that in the end there were only alcoholic drinks left, witnesses said. It only continued after about two and a half hours.
The fire department then provided all of the passengers with fresh drinks at the next train station. As “Bild” reports, two people received medical treatment but did not have to go to the clinic.
