In the world consider different options for the treatment of coronavirus. Under development are 155 79 medicines and vaccines. Most of the drugs already approved to treat other infections. With vaccines, the situation is more complicated.
According to experts of the Austrian Institute of technology assessment of health (AIHTA), 155 all drugs that are currently tested for activity against SARS-CoV-2, based on one or more antiviral agents. Among them, in particular, stand out ramdevpir, lopinavir and ritonavir (trade name Kaletra), favipiravir (Avigan), darunavir (Prezista), chloroquine phosphate (Resochin) and hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil), chemostat Mesylate (Paipan), APN01 (rhACE2), tocilizumab (Roactemra), siluman (Kisara) and interferon beta 1a (SNG001).
“Since most of these active ingredients are drugs that are already approved for other indications, the international regulators emphasize the need for reliable evidence of their effectiveness against COVID-19”, – explained the Director of AIHTA Claudia wild. In this case, eleven drugs and eight vaccines are considered to be particularly advanced and promising. For them, the experts wrote a brief description with additional information.
the Vaccine candidates identified by the Institute AIHTA are live vaccines, i.e. attenuated virus strains, dead vaccines, which contain viral proteins, or vaccines based on the genes with special DNA or mRNA. Most of these projects are currently still under development and not yet approved.
meanwhile, a resolution calling to prevent speculation on future vaccine against coronavirus was supported by all 193 UN member States. The General Assembly urged to take immediate steps to legislate to ensure universal access to medicines, vaccines, PPE, medical equipment, essential in the spread COVID-19, TASS reported.
