A group of French scientists from the University of Provence have found that the coronavirus is completely destroyed by heat exposure at 92 degrees for 15 minutes. The conclusions of the experts are published on the bioRxiv resource, publishing scholarly materials.
In the experiment, the researchers heated the coronavirus to 60 degrees within an hour to find that after exposure, some strains were still able to reproduce. Hour heating up to 60 degrees is a standard Protocol of decontamination of the virus used in most laboratories, which explore the patient. To fully deactivate the coronavirus managed after heating up to 92 degrees for 15 minutes.
For the experiment of the French scientists used the kidney cells of African green monkeys infected with a strain of coronavirus, obtained from a patient from Germany. Infected cells were placed in two test tubes – one with a clean environment, the other with proteins of animal origin, simulating a real, but not sterile conditions.
After the standard procedure of heating the virus strains in a clean environment was completely deactivated, however, in non-sterile samples, some of them survived. The researchers suggested that a standard Protocol of decontamination may be sufficient for decontamination of samples with low viral load, however, for samples with a high content of this virus may not be enough.
The authors noted that the results of their study should contribute to the selection of the most appropriate Protocol for decontamination of the virus to prevent the threat of infecting the medical staff who are directly working with samples.
