A man pushed a cyclist to his death in front of a moving S-Bahn at Ohlsdorf train station in Hamburg. Two days later he was arrested at Hamburg Airport. The homicide investigations are ongoing, so far the motive is unclear.

A 56-year-old cyclist is pushed to his death at Ohlsdorf train station. Intentionally, according to the findings of the Hamburg police. Two days later, a man is arrested at Hamburg Airport: 62, no criminal record, wears glasses. Henry L. is said to be the name of the bump and will be in custody for the near future. The crime has now been cleared up for the police. But one question remains: What was his motive?

6:08 p.m., Thursday, Hamburg Airport in Fuhlsbüttel: The Eurowings plane 7175 from Munich lands eight minutes late. It rolls onto the “finger” – that’s what the tunnel between the plane and the gate is called – and passengers get out.

Among them was the 62-year-old from Alsterdorf, who had been on a business trip for the past two days. Shortly thereafter, he is intercepted by investigators from the homicide squad and led out of the plane down a side staircase. They open up the allegation to him, present the arrest warrant. The headline: bodily harm resulting in death. The officers then handcuff him. In a VW bus we go to the police headquarters.

Evidence is also secured during the arrest. Interesting: L. is wearing a blue shirt at this time – the police wrote about a man with a blue shirt when they called witnesses after the crime. It is possible that L. wore the same shirt both at the time of the crime and at the time of the arrest. It will be forensically examined over the next few days, perhaps DNA traces of the victim Stephan L. can be found on it.

The 62-year-old suspect will be presented to a judge in a timely manner, Liddy Oechtering, spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office, told MOPO. “There is a risk of flight,” she says. Henry L. has no criminal record, neither the police nor the public prosecutor’s office investigated him in Hamburg before last Tuesday.

The murder commission had obtained an arrest warrant from the competent judge after identifying the alleged perpetrator – also thanks to the evaluated video material from the Ohlsdorf railway track. However, the exact circumstances of the identification are not yet entirely clear: As MOPO learned, the man is said to have reported to the police before his arrest, but not explicitly. Investigators want to ensure clarity in the coming interrogations. And also find out the motive of the alleged perpetrator.

So far there are only theories. A: The 62-year-old felt disturbed by the cyclist as he rolled across the platform with one foot on the pedal of his bicycle. General hatred of cyclists may also have triggered an impulse reaction. It seems unlikely that the victims and the 62-year-old knew each other. Police spokesman Florian Abbenseth: “The investigations by the homicide squad and the department for capital crimes of the public prosecutor’s office are ongoing.”
