Jose Altuve, Houston Astros’ second baseman, was placed on Wednesday’s 10-day injured list with a strained left quadriceps.
The 2017 AL MVP was hurt while attempting to reach an infielder in the eighth inning of Monday night’s game. The roster move has been rescheduled for Tuesday.
Altuve was originally placed on the Astros’ injured list to prevent him from being hurt, but they did so after realizing that he would likely need to rest for at least a week.
Manager Dusty Baker stated that it’s only a 10-day period and that we’ll reevaluate the situation from there. He was disappointed. He did not have to apologize. He’s a great guy.
Baker stated that the Astros would split second base time between AledmysDiaz and Niko Goodrum, while Altuve is on.
To make space for Matijevic on their 40-man roster, the Astros signed J.J. Matijevic, an infielder from Sugar Land of Pacific Coast League. Taylor Jones was also transferred to the 60-day injures list.
