The University of Texas at Austin has welcomed two new additions to its Longhorn Live: Live Music Initiative team, journalist Andy Langer and singer-violinist Carrie Rodriguez. Langer, a well-known figure in the Texas music scene, has taken on the role of senior director of live music and entertainment at UT. In this position, he will serve as a liaison for all campus live music events, connect the university with the Austin music community, and support student talent development.
Langer has already been involved in various musical outreach projects at UT, including managing the Songwriter in Residence program and producing a range of shows with artists like Diplo and Pitbull. He recently hosted André 3000 for a special event at the Butler School of Music, demonstrating his commitment to bringing top-tier talent to campus.
Meanwhile, Carrie Rodriguez is set to take over the Songwriter in Residence program from Darden Smith. She will lead workshops, discussion panels, and concerts at the university, culminating in the premiere of an original work titled “Postcards From the Border.” This multimedia performance will feature narration by novelist Oscar Cásares, photography by Joel Salcido, and music by Rodriguez and her band.
In addition to these exciting developments, a lineup of live music events is on the horizon at UT. THEBROSFRESH, Y’all Out Boy, and Fitz and the Tantrums are scheduled to perform at the next Longhorn City Limits concert on September 28. This free concert series aims to showcase a diverse range of musical talent and provide a platform for both established and emerging artists.
