The government Commission on legislative activities approved a bill prohibiting Russian ambassadors have foreign citizenship or residence permit in another state.
“These changes are due to the adoption of the law of the Russian Federation on the amendment to the Constitution of the Russian Federation of 14 March 2020 № 1-FKZ “On improving the regulation of certain issues of organization and functioning of public authorities,”… in accordance with which, restrictions regarding the existence of certain agents of foreign citizenship or residence permit or other document confirming the right to permanent residence of citizens of the Russian Federation on the territory of a foreign state (point “e” of article 1 of the Law). Earlier, the senators Konstantin Kosachev Andrey Klishas submitted to the state Duma that the Russian Ambassador in a foreign country or a permanent representative in international organizations can be appointed as a citizen with foreign citizenship or residence permit in another state.
We will remind, in April the Russians called important amendments on the protection of the integrity of our borders, prohibiting officials to have foreign nationality and the priority of the Constitution over international law.
