Baldwin and other defendants were sued by the Hutchins family on Tuesday for wrongful death.
Alec Baldwin denies any responsibility for the death of Halyna Hutchins (Rust) cinematographer, according to her family’s lawyer.
Hutchins was shot to death by Baldwin’s gun on the New Mexico film set on Oct. 21. He maintains his innocence and claimed in a televised interview, that he didn’t pull the trigger.
Hutchins’ family filed a wrongful death lawsuit to Baldwin and others on Tuesday. Brian Panish, the family attorney, appeared on Dan Abrams Live, where he said that the “30 Rock star” is “continuing to do the same thing throughout this – blaming other people.”
Panish stated that Baldwin, 63 years old, “refused to take any gun safety training number one” and “he’s not taking any responsibility.”
“Number 2: He pointed a gun at a person on a set. Without plexiglass or other precautions, you can’t do that. Number three: Why were there bullets in the gun? It was just a list. He didn’t intend to shoot the weapon. He was not supposed to shoot at the weapon. Panish said that despite being told not to, he fired the weapon at three people and killed one.
Joel Souza, the director of the film, was also killed by Hutchins.
The Hutchins family is seeking punitive damages and funeral and burial expenses. The criminal investigation continues. The most recent development was the search for Baldwin’s cell phone, which was performed by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department. Fox News Digital reached out to the sheriff’s office for comment about the wrongful-death lawsuit.
Juan Rios, spokesperson for the sheriff’s department, stated in a statement that “The investigation remains open” and that it was ongoing.
Panish stated that it is up to the prosecuting lawyer to decide whether Baldwin will face criminal charges. The attorney stated that Baldwin was “in total denial and accepting no responsibility, and we look to letting the people, Santa Fe County, decide his responsibility.”
In a statement that was shared with Fox News Digital Tuesday, Baldwin’s lawyers denied that Baldwin was reckless on the set for “Rust”.
Attorney Aaron Dyer for Baldwin stated that “Everyone’s thoughts and hearts remain with Halyna’s family as they continue processing this unspeakable tragedy.” “We will continue to cooperate to the authorities to determine how live ammo arrived on the Rust set.” Alec’s reckless claims are completely false.
The statement said that Halyna, Halyna, and the rest on the crew relied upon the statement of the two professionals who checked the gun to confirm that it was a “cold gun” — meaning there was no chance of a blank or accidental discharge.
This protocol has been used on thousands of films with millions of shots. There has never been an incident where a bullet actually hurt anyone. It concluded that actors should be able rely on professionals in the prop and armor departments, as well assistant directors to decide when a gun can be used safely.
Baldwin continues to be a hot topic as he goes back to work, and speaks out publicly about his life in the midst of ongoing investigations.
Levin stated that while this is a complex situation, prosecutors and investigators are conducting a thorough investigation despite the media attention. Fox News Digital was not aware of Levin’s comments. It’s a waiting game at this point to see what happens.
