Quebec screenwriter, producer and director Alain Chartrand has died at age 77. He is the son of trade unionist Michel Chartrand and writer Simonne Monet-Chartrand. His brother Dominique made the announcement on Facebook Monday evening.

For television, Alain Chartrand has directed, among others, the series Montreal, open city and Paparazzi, as well as Chartrand and Simone, about his famous parents.
In the cinema, he directed Ding et Dong the film, based on a screenplay by Claude Meunier, Le Jardin d’Anna and more recently, in 2013, La Maison du pêcheur. He also made a documentary about his father, A Man of His Word, and his mother, A Life Like a River.
