After the arrest of a former AfD member of parliament during the large-scale anti-terror raid against the “Reichsbürger” scene, the Union in the Bundestag is pushing for stricter surveillance of the right-wing party by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. “The nationwide raids last Wednesday revealed that the AfD is close to the ideological quagmire of Reich citizens and state delegitimizers,” Alexander Throm, spokesman for domestic affairs for the Union faction in the Bundestag, told the “Augsburger Allgemeine”.
“In a well-fortified democracy, this swamp must be drained using the rule of law, which also includes monitoring by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution,” demanded the CDU politician. “This party masquerades as patriotic, and it’s exactly the opposite of that.”
