Washington’s military base was put under lockdown on Friday following reports that an armed man was seen on its grounds. Local police reported shots being heard near the base, and that a gunman ran onto it.
Joint Base Anacostia Bolling posted a Facebook note stating that the base was under lockdown. The notice stated that the person was seen on the base’s south side. Marine Helicopter Squadron One is the navy support facility located at the north end the base. This fleet of green helicopters, which carry the president or vice president, uses the naval support facility.
If you are able to run and meet the person, then RUN. HIDE if you don’t have a safe way to run. The post suggested that you barricade your door and turn off your cell phone’s ringer. Prepare to FIGHT if you hide.
Initial reports stated that two people were wanted, but later reports revealed that only one person was being sought, a man with dreadlocks and wearing blue or green pants and white tops.
Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department stated that D.C. officers responded to a call about shots being heard near the base and the suspects fled onto the ground. According to police, there were no reports of shooting victims. As police searched, a line of cars stood on one side of the road while security personnel blocked roads.
The base, which covers 905 acres in southeast Washington, houses the Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard units. It also includes the Washington field office for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and the headquarters of Defense Intelligence Agency.
A burst in violence at a transit centre outside of the Pentagon led to the stabbing death of a Pentagon officer police officer. The suspect was killed at the scene after being shot by law enforcement. The Pentagon, headquarters of the U.S. Military, was temporarily placed under lockdown as a result of this violence.
