CDU leader Friedrich Merz broke his collarbone while on vacation. He was operated on in a clinic on Friday.
On Thursday, CDU leader Merz fell while on vacation in Bavaria and broke his collarbone.
As his spokesman, Armin Peter, announced on Friday, Merz had a successful operation on Friday morning and is on the way to recovery.
The operation was successful, it said. Merz, who is also chairman of the Union faction in the Bundestag, reportedly did not have to be taken to the hospital with the blue light on.
Merz should survive the injury well, say doctors. A broken collarbone is easy to treat, and surgery is not uncommon. About 60 out of 100,000 people break their collarbones every year. Most of the time, such a fracture occurs as a result of a fall or a car accident.
The prognosis is usually very good with conservative treatment of a broken collarbone. Nevertheless, an operation like Merz’s is only necessary in severe cases. It should be clear that Merz is in severe pain, after a broken collarbone it is impossible to move the arm without pain, according to the experts.
Merz is considered healthy and fit, does a lot of sport according to the report and had to present a health certificate for his pilot’s license.
Merz gets the first recovery wishes from his Union colleagues. Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder, for example, writes on Twitter that he wishes him “get well soon” and a “rapid recovery and hopefully a speedy recovery”.
In the spring, the Budget Committee of the Bundestag withdrew former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder from his right to an office and employees. He now wants to get his privileges back and is filing a lawsuit with the Berlin Administrative Court.
Oliver Heise’s family is calling for the young man. The German had recently made contact from Gran Canaria and wanted to travel on from there. But a few days ago the contact broke off – atypical for Oliver.
The number of people injured in the roller coaster accident in Bavaria’s Legoland has risen to 31. One person was seriously injured when two trains of the “fire dragon” collided. The rescue was particularly difficult because of the height.
