Abilene Museum Aims to Become Cultural Cornerstone
The Grace Museum in Abilene is a fully accredited museum in the state of Texas, making it one of the few with this prestigious recognition. The museum’s digital media & project coordinator, Lyric Kennedy, shared the museum’s story with the Texas Museum Map series.
The Grace Museum is not just an art and history museum, but a place that aims to create connections through new experiences that contribute to the evolving Texas story. It boasts five art galleries, four history galleries, and an interactive space called Spark for families and children. The museum’s permanent collection includes over 18,000 works of art and historical artifacts.
In addition to its impressive collection, The Grace Museum curates 12 to 15 art and history exhibitions each year, showcasing a diverse range of topics and artists. The museum is dedicated to making Abilene a cultural cornerstone of Texas, offering a central hub for learning, inspiration, and community involvement.
From programs like Tot Spot for the little ones to Grace Teens for teenagers and adult studio classes, The Grace Museum caters to visitors of all ages. The museum hosts monthly programs and events, including family-friendly activities like the Día de Los Muertos Family Festival in October, Native American Heritage Night in November, and the Holiday Shell-ebration festival in December.
