Two years ago in Argentina fell so great hail that scientists suggested a new category to describe it. The study writes portal Phys.org published in the journal Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society.
Researchers who have studied the effects of the storm in Argentina in 2018, I believe that fell, then hail the size from 19 to 23.6 inches wide can set a new world record. Previously, the largest castle (width 20 cm) was sighted in South Dakota (USA). Scientists believe that hail the size of 15 cm should be categorized as a new type of giant.
Using photos and videos in social networks, the researchers were able, a year after the storm to study unusual castle. They interviewed witnesses, visited the places where the hail damaged houses and trees, collected all photogrammetric data and analyzed radar observations. All this has helped scientists figure out that the Argentine grad may have set a world record. According to experts, the work done is an important step forward in the understanding and prediction of storms that produce giant hail. Future research will help to minimize damage of extreme weather events.
