Karadagsky gorge is one of the most picturesque parts of Dagestan, access to which is not so easy, but to regret it is not necessary.
This monument of nature in Dagestan is sometimes called the Gateway to Miracles. Karadagsky gorge is located on the border of two mountain districts of the Republic — gunibskogo and Khunzakh. The canyon is very narrow — a width of only two to four meters, and the height of the “walls” when it reaches 170 meters. The gorge stretches for about four hundred meters.
to Get here from the capital of the Republic Makhachkala, having gone in the direction in Gunib. Reaching monumental Gunib hydropower station, turn onto a dirt road. And since you’ve been in these parts, it will be ridiculous to not visit one of the most famous villages in Dagestan Gunib, the last stronghold of Imam Shamil in the Caucasian war. Then turn and dive into the story, and to sleep and eat out in the evening with national dishes.
the Village is situated on a mountain slope at an altitude of 1200-1450 metres above sea level. It appeared in the XIX century, but people settled in these places much earlier.
Through all the settlement is serpentine road. In the center is the square where there are shops, a mosque, hotels. Here is a memorial complex “White cranes” in honor of those killed in the great Patriotic war.
