The number of deaths after infection with the novel coronavirus in Belarus is five times less than from alcohol poisoning. This statement was made by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting on Sunday to discuss the preparations for the Victory Day and the epidemic situation in the country.
"That struck me from the alcohol poisoning deaths of 482 people, suicides 470. Almost 1 million people died from alcohol, suicide, – quotes the President Agency BelTA. – Fires killed 218 people on the roads for 4 months in accidents killed 163 people. Drowned 89 people – almost as much as from different kinds of diseases, burdened COVID-19 (coronavirus caused by the disease – approx. TASS)".
As of may 2 in the Republic of recorded 97 deaths of patients with coronavirus.
In addition, four months from diseases of the circulatory system died almost 25 thousand Belarusians from cancer – about 6.4 thousand
As Lukashenka said, the mortality rate in the country is decreasing.
"In 4 months the overall mortality rate in the country decreased by 1.5%. If every quarter we will hold a 1.5-2% we are at 7-8% decrease mortality. This is a very good indicator on the background of the fact that in some States the death rate is growing. We have the dynamics down for several years", – said the head of state.
In Belarus, where the number of cases of the novel coronavirus is 15 828, quarantine is entered. Despite warnings from the world health organization, 20 April in the Republic resumed classes in schools, April 25 passed a Republican Saturday, preparations are underway for the parade in honor of Victory Day.
