The Ambassador of Ukraine in Germany refused the invitation of the authorities of Berlin to lay wreaths together with the Russian Ambassador on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Victory. This was reported by the newspaper Tagesspiegel.
On Saturday Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev, together with the governing mayor of Berlin Michael Muller will take part in solemn ceremony dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the capitulation of the Wehrmacht in Berlin. There will be a joint laying of wreaths at the house where in 1945 the headquarters of the Soviet eighth guards army. The second of may 1945, German General Helmut Weidling there was signed the order of surrender of the Wehrmacht, who were fighting in the capital.
As the newspaper reported, Ukrainian Ambassador Andrew Miller, along with other heads of foreign diplomatic missions were also invited to participate in a ceremony to "honor above all the memory of the Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian soldiers of the red Army that took Berlin". However, Miller rejected this offer.
As he said, "the memory of the victims of the war of extermination is a moral obligation", however, to lay wreaths, together with a representative of Russia, he will not. The Ambassador explained that in Ukraine there is a war.
Relations between Moscow and Kiev deteriorated on the background of the situation in the Donbass. Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly accused Russia of meddling in the internal Affairs of the country. In January 2015 the Verkhovna Rada adopted the statement in which Moscow called the "aggressor". Russia charges Ukrainian side denies and calls unacceptable. Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to domestic conflict and is interested in Kiev overcame political and economic crisis.
