The initiator of such measures was the new head of Ministry of Economics Igor Petrashko, who took office in March.

From the first of may in Ukraine entered into force the decision on introduction of special duties on import of coal from Russia. The fee will be 65%.

According to the Ukrainian side, a similar decision was made “to protect the domestic market.” It is worth noting that, according to the Ukrainian state statistics Committee, Russia supplied 58% of the coal and anthracite coal in 2019, and this year deliveries have increased to 61%.

Kiev’s decision includes several types of fuel, which will not be subject to new duties. They include anthracite coal for metallurgical production and also for production of heat and electricity.

As we learned earlier, the initiator of such measures was the new head of Ministry of Economics Igor Petrashko, who took office in March. This decision was one of the first that the Minister made in his post. About the need to limit the supply of energy from Russia has repeatedly stated the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
