The self-proclaimed leadership of Donetsk national Republic (DND) has decided to promote the previous name of the city of Donetsk – Stalino. The Network published the corresponding decree of the head DND Denis Pushilin.
The document notes that “Stalin” will be the official celebrations dedicated to the victory in the great Patriotic War on may 9, as well as in the day of the beginning of world war II on June 22 and the day of liberation of Donbass from the Nazis on 8 September. Also in Donetsk will be set to the name of “city of Stalin” as the city’s symbol.
Certain instructions of the head of the Republic were distributed among the employees of the ministries of information, culture and sports. They should organise information campaigns in order to “promote the historical name of the city”.
Donetsk was called Stalin from 1929 to 1961, After the 20th Congress of the CPSU, which was debunked the cult of personality of Joseph Stalin, the decision on renaming the city.
