the Former President of Georgia and former Governor of the Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvili said that he accepted the offer of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to become Deputy Prime Minister. His statement he made at a press briefing in Kiev.
“the President instructed me to do the negotiations with the International monetary Fund, international financial organizations”, – said Saakashvili.
According to him, Kyiv needs a clearer negotiations and more acceptable terms.
“Ukraine comes in a very strong economic storm, a real tsunami crisis. We need to find a very extraordinary steps in order to not only save the Ukrainian economy, but to weaken a blow to every Ukrainian family and in General to save the country”, – Saakashvili added.
Earlier it was reported that the Verkhovna Rada may appoint Saakashvili to the post of Deputy Prime Minister for reform at today’s extraordinary meeting, however it became known later that the consideration was postponed, as while there are discussions on fractions.
on radio Sputnik political analyst Ivan Mizuho expressed opinion that this appointment would be a mistake for President Vladimir Zelensky and his team.
Mikheil Saakashvili left Georgia in 2013, immediately after the inauguration of President Giorgi Margvelashvili. At home against him filed several criminal cases and some sentenced to prison.
in the Spring of 2015, the then President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko gave Saakashvili citizenship and appointed him Governor of Odessa region, but in November 2016, was fired, as he not only fulfilled promises to develop the region, but significantly worsened economic performance.
in the Summer of 2017, Poroshenko, Saakashvili was deprived of Ukrainian citizenship and banned him from entering the country. In Ukraine, Saakashvili was back in may last year, after the new President, Vladimir Zelensky cancelled the decree about deprivation of its citizenship.
