KIEV, 24 April – RIA Novosti. Kiev on Friday once again hit the top of cities with the dirtiest air in the world, according to the website the IQAir, which monitors air quality in major cities.
According to the website, at the moment Kyiv is in fourth place on air pollution in the world. The index of air pollution in the Ukrainian capital is at the rate of 126 to 50. Leads the ranking of cities with the dirtiest air Brussels (Belgium), in second place is Kuwait city (Kuwait), the third Shanghai (China).
Kiev over the past few weeks is not the first time falls in the ranking of cities with the dirtiest air. Earlier, the mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko said that the content of harmful substances, in particular sulphur dioxide, formaldehyde and nitrogen dioxide in the air of Kiev was exceeded due to a fire in the Ukrainian capital, as well as Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions. Kyiv authorities urged residents of the capital not to leave their homes and not to open the Windows. Later, the Deputy Director Ukrgidromettsentra Anatoly Prokopenko said that the condition of the air in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Vinnytsia and Poltava regions of Ukraine has improved, these changes have occurred thanks to the efforts of rescue workers who fought wildfires, and changing weather patterns.
Ukrainian rescuers continue to work on the spot fires in the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl NPP and in the Zhytomyr region.
