MOSCOW, 22 APR – RIA Novosti. Russian cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin believes the colonization of Mars by humanity is very far from the case.
“To colonize (Mars) the matter is very, very far. Crazy far” – he said during the online Lectorium in the all-Russian contest “Big break”.
as an example, an astronaut has brought the annual average temperature on the surface of Mars, which is about minus 80 degrees. “It’s not even Antarctica, guys, it’s much worse,” he said.
According to Yurchikhin, the pressure on the surface of Mars is 160 times less than on earth’s surface.
“People there will be forced to walk in the suit. Another way to go there is impossible. To live in enclosed spaces”, he explained.
Yurchikhin performed 5 space flights with a total duration of about 673 days and 9 spacewalks with a total duration of 59.5 hours.
