MOSCOW, 22 APR — RIA Novosti. Executive Director of the world food programme (WFP) David Beazley stated that humanity could face a massive famine because the pandemic coronavirus, if not ensure food security. This is stated on the organization’s website.
Beasley suggests a number of measures to avoid this. He asked all combatants to grant unhindered access for humanitarian assistance, and to invest $ 350 million in the establishment of a network of logistics centres, enabling the movement of humanitarian relief supplies around the world.
Beasley also raised the question of the necessity of early warning systems, noting the importance not to allow the lack of funding, loss of trade and loss of access to the starving population.
Earlier, experts of the WFP said that about 130 million people worldwide by the end of 2020 will starve due to the effects of COVID-19.
