MOSCOW, April 18/ Radio Sputnik. Permanent representative of Russia to international organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov called for the press Secretary of the Embassy of the United States Rebecca Ross to explain a tweet with regards to the liberation mission of the Soviet troops in April 1945, his response he posted on Twitter.
the Press attache of the U.S. Embassy Rebecca Ross published Twitter account in which he mentioned the anniversary of the liberation of Vienna by Soviet troops and the fire in the Cathedral of St. Stephen.
“Seventy-five years ago, Soviet troops liberated Vienna from the Nazis. Throughout the war, Vienna’s famous St. Stephen’s Cathedral survived, and on 12 April 1945 it was badly damaged by fire. The reconstruction was funded by donations of the Austrians,” said Ross.
the Russian Ambassador criticized the statement Ross, noting the incorrect linking of the fire with the entry of Soviet troops in Vienna.
