Cosmonautics day is celebrated in honor of the space flight of the first man – Yuri Gagarin. He went into orbit on 12 April 1961. In 1962 the decision of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, this day was declared a holiday. In 2011, the UN General Assembly declared it as International day of human flight into space.
