While thousands of middle managers and consultants sitting at home in their apartments, villas and cottages in front of the laptop, so are others far worse paid workers to continue at work.
bus drivers, truck drivers, cashiers, nurses, home helps, sailors, physiotherapists and many others still take on the work to keep society going.
In other words, many of society’s low-paid groups, such as day in and day out and puts their own health at stake to Denmark – and a number of other countries – can continue to run around.
And it is striking that it is precisely the low-paid, which makes that the countries are still functioning.
It tells the French sociologist Jean Viard in an interview with Weekendavisen.
“First and foremost, it has become clear in this crisis, that it is not them, we thought, effectively holding the community up. Yes, yes, middle-managers working from their laptop in sommerhytten, but it is not those who with danger for their own health ensure that society runs on,” says Viard, who also serves as adviser to the French president, Emmanuel Macron.
“It is, however, garbage collectors, lokoførere, home helps, pharmacists, merchants and so on. We get every day clearly illustrated the level of wages is no relationship with the importance your job has for the society’s maintenance. That we’re going to talk much about afterwards,” says Viard and adds:
“If these groups were at home, would the whole of society go in the stand, yes, fall apart. Or, to put it in a more robust way: If the poor die, the die rich too.”
Jean Viard also says that he does not expect the current coronakrise to be the only pandemic, we are going to experience in this century.
And so is his position that you should consider, whether just the european countries should not bet more on health – instead of, for instance defense.
“It is also important to remember that this pandemic is not unique. There are an average of a few pandemics per. century. Most of them, incidentally, with the exception of aids – with origins in China, where livestock farming takes place inside the cities or the villages. So it will not be the last,” he says and elaborates:
“that is Why it is important to be prepared, for example, with a european reaction force and common procedures for how to deal with contagion and epidemics,” he says
