Norway recommend to play the european football championship, for both women and men in 2021, although the OLYMPICS-the move creates problems.
the Relocation of the OLYMPICS and the european championships in herrefodbold has created congestion in the sportskalenderen next summer.
But sammenklumpningen of the many great events should not go beyond the women’s european football championship, believes the Norwegian Football association (NFF).
the federation has sent a letter to Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin with a call for the european championship for women will be held in the summer of 2021 in spite of the competition from the other major championships.
– It is too early to say how it ends, but it is our position that we want that the scheduled championships, to be maintained, at the same time, to make room for them, has moved, says the NFF’s general secretary, Pål Bjerketvedt, to NTB.
EM for women to be after the original plan is played between 7. July and 1. august next year, and will thus overlap with the summer OLYMPICS, which after the move to start 23. July.
This means that women’s EM after all that the judge will be moved, and there have been suggestions that the tournament should, instead, be played in 2022, where there is a little more air in the calendar.
But the norwegians, suggests that the EM for both women and men wound up in 2021, which, according to the NFF, would be a strong signal in the gender-equality perspective.
– We are well aware that 2021 will not be a normal year in any way, and some tournaments may be played on top of each other and maybe on other time than what was planned.
– But we continue to hope that it can be done, says Pål Bjerketvedt.
England is hosting the women’s european championship, which will see participation of 16 teams.
