The Swiss are always more often abroad. By the end of 2019 lived more than one in every ten Swiss nationals abroad – a total of 770’871 people, as the latest Figures from the Federal statistical office (FSO) show. This means an increase of 1.4 percent compared to 2018.
the largest number of Swiss abroad in Asia (+2.0 percent) and Europe (+1.7%) has increased. Africa is the only continent where the Swiss community decreased slightly (-0.5 percent).
Nearly two-thirds of Swiss abroad live in Europe. Of the 484’257 of the Swiss Abroad, living in 2019 in Europe, approximately 471’500 in the EU/EFTA member States resident were. Well 286’600 Swiss live on a different continent, including the Americas (24 percent), Asia (7 percent), Oceania (4 percent) and Africa (2 percent).

In ten countries, lives a handful of of the Swiss abroad. Not a single one is found in Turkmenistan, Nauru, and Tuvalu. Just one each in Sao Tomé and Principe, Papua new Guinea, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands.
In Kiribati, and Palau only three foreign life Swiss in Eritrea, only four.
Each one in five under the age of 18 or over 65
by the end of 2019, every fifth of the Swiss abroad were good during the year, i.e. under the age of 18 years old (163’800 people). The proportion of persons aged 65 and over was just under 22 percent, which is slightly higher that is 167’800 people a little higher. 439’300 people (57 percent ) were between 18 and 64 years old.
Overall, the number of foreign countries increases the Swiss tend to be, the growth varies according to age class. While the number of Minors and persons is grown in the working age compared to the previous year by almost 1 percent, the estimated increase in the number of seniors to 3.3 percent.
