SPICEWOOD, Texas – In a heartwarming display of heroism, employees at the Spicewood General Store sprang into action to save the life of Scott Hendrix, who suffered a sudden heart attack on the premises.
The incident unfolded when Hendrix, experiencing severe chest pains, sought refuge at the general store, hoping to find temporary relief before seeking emergency medical attention. However, his condition rapidly deteriorated, and he went into cardiac arrest right there in the store.
Four quick-thinking employees, Keri Teague, Eddie Edwards, Annalee Smith, and Edward Diaz, wasted no time in coming to Hendrix’s aid. They immediately rolled him over, assessed his condition, and swiftly initiated lifesaving measures.
Hendrix recalls the terrifying moment, saying, “[They] rolled me over, said ‘are you ok?’ And I said ‘I think I’m having a heart attack.'”
A Lifesaving Act of Heroism
The actions of these courageous individuals did not go unnoticed. They were honored with the prestigious Burnet County Life Saving Award for their selfless and timely intervention. Despite being aware of the forthcoming recognition, little did they know that Hendrix himself would be present at the ceremony to express his heartfelt gratitude.
Reflecting on the incident, Hendrix shared, “The last few days I was in the hospital, I was like how am I going to meet these folks who saved me?”
