Westlake and Lake Travis are gearing up for a rematch in the 6A Division I Region IV final next week, known as the Battle of the Lakes. This showdown between the two powerhouse programs is set to take place at 7 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.
Both teams secured their spots in the regional finals with dominant performances in the semifinals. Westlake crushed Buda Johnson 52-14 at Burger Stadium, while Lake Travis had a commanding 52-7 victory over San Antonio East Central at Matador Stadium in Seguin.
In Westlake’s game, they took an early lead and never looked back, building a 38-7 advantage by halftime. Brandon Clark, typically a defensive player, stepped up in the offensive backfield due to injuries and made a significant impact with two rushing touchdowns. Nate Kay also contributed with a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown, and quarterback Rees Wise had a strong performance with two rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown.
On the other hand, Lake Travis saw running back Van Hopping shine with a 95-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, one of his three rushing touchdowns in that frame. Quarterback Chaston Ditta also had a solid game with two passing touchdowns in the first half. The Cavaliers managed to take control of the game early and maintained a comfortable lead throughout.
Buda Johnson’s season came to an end with an 8-5 record, showcasing their resilience with playoff wins over Laredo United and Los Fresnos after finishing fourth in District 29-6A. Although they faced tough losses in the playoffs, the Jaguars displayed determination and skill throughout the season.
