Día de los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead, is a significant holiday in Hispanic cultures where families honor and remember their loved ones who have passed away. This tradition, originating in Latin America, has become popular in various parts of the United States, including central Texas.

In Georgetown, the City is celebrating Día de los Muertos on November 1st from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the South Main Arts District. The event will feature live music, dance performances, sugar skull face paintings, paper flower crafting, and more. Attendees can enjoy traditional Latin American foods, drinks, sweets, and participate in a community ofrenda (altar).

The Bastrop Museum, Visitor Center, and County Historical Society will be hosting a Día de los Muertos celebration from October 26th to November 6th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can view ofrendas created by local families, share photos and memories of their loved ones on a community altar, and explore a special exhibit room.

Siete Family Foods will be hosting a Día de los Muertos celebration at Waterloo Park on November 1st from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event will include community altars, live art, Latinx art vendors, calavera face painting, and an ‘alebrije’ or lost pet altar.

The La Peña Gallery Latino Arts Organization is presenting the “Celebrando la Vida” group art and altar exhibition, showcasing artwork dedicated to lost loved ones and featured artists. The exhibit will be open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays until 3 p.m. from October 7th to November 15th at the La Peña Gallery.

In Republic Square Park, the Mexic-Arte Museum and Downtown Austin Alliance will host the “Muertos Mercado” on November 2nd from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free family event will feature a partnership with the Sustainable Farmers Market, over 30 vendors, music, dancing, storytelling, and more.

The 11th annual ‘Día de los Muertos’ Festival will take place at Centennial Plaza in Downtown Round Rock on November 2nd from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sponsored by the Round Rock Ballet Folklórico program, the festival will include performances, a parade, magic shows, and more.
