Former President Donald Trump has seen an increase in support in Texas, according to a recent poll, while the race for the state’s U.S. Senate seat is heating up.
In a poll conducted by Emerson College/The Hill and funded by Nexstar Media, 53% of respondents indicated they would vote for Trump if the election were held today, compared to 46% who would vote for Vice President Kamala Harris. The margin between Trump and Harris has grown from 5.3 points to 7.1 points since September.
The poll, which surveyed 815 likely voters between Oct. 18 and Oct. 21, 2024, showed that Trump’s lead has increased among key groups such as independent voters and men. Despite this, 56% of respondents believe Trump will win the election, while 43% believe Harris will win.
On the other hand, the race for the Senate seat in Texas is getting closer, with incumbent Republican Ted Cruz holding 48% of support compared to Democratic challenger Colin Allred’s 47%. Allred’s name recognition has improved in recent weeks, with only 10% of respondents indicating they had never heard of him.
When it comes to the top issues concerning Texas voters, immigration was named as the most important by 32% of respondents, followed by the economy, abortion access, threats to democracy, healthcare, and education.
As the election day draws near, the competition between Trump and Harris is intensifying, with Trump leading in the polls. At the same time, the race between Cruz and Allred continues to tighten, making it an important contest to watch in Texas politics.
