A woman who allegedly hit four pedestrians and a food truck in southeast Austin is currently not in custody, according to Austin Police Department Officer Austin Zarling. She is facing charges of failure to stop and render aid, as well as aggravated assault.
The incident began when a call came in around 4:30 p.m. reporting a stolen phone on Elmont Drive and South Pleasant Valley Road. Shortly after, another call reported a crash at the same location. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple individuals who had been struck by a vehicle, including the food truck in the area.
Among the victims was the woman’s child’s father, leading to an investigation of aggravated assault family violence in addition to the initial charges. Detectives are now working on obtaining a warrant for her arrest.
Emergency medical services responded to the scene at 5:13 p.m., with one person being designated as a “trauma activation” and taken to a local trauma facility for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Another adult was also transported with minor injuries, while two others refused transport after being treated at the scene.
Two individuals were inside the food truck during the incident, although it is unclear if they sustained any injuries.
The cause of the fire that occurred as a result of the crash is still unknown, as confirmed by Austin Fire Department Rachel Lewis. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
As of now, no further information has been provided by officials regarding the incident.
