Matthew Gutierrez has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Schools for Del Valle ISD. The decision was made during a meeting held on Saturday, where Gutierrez was announced as the lone finalist for the position. This marks a significant milestone as he will be the first Latino superintendent to lead the district.

With a strong educational background that includes a bachelor’s degree from Angelo St. University, a master’s degree from Schreiner University, and a doctorate from Texas Tech University, Gutierrez brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Prior to joining Del Valle ISD, he has held key positions in other school districts such as serving as deputy superintendent for Leander ISD, superintendent at Seguin ISD for six years, and assistant superintendent in Plano ISD.

One of Gutierrez’s main priorities is to lead the district towards a path of overall improvement. Del Valle ISD stated that his focus is on building a community engagement framework that will address the needs of the nearly 12,000 students within the district. To kickstart his tenure, Gutierrez has put in place a 100-day entry plan that will be continuously updated as progress is made.
