The Dead Rabbit, an Irish pub that gained fame in New York, has opened a new location in Austin on E. Sixth Street. Alongside it, Neighbourhood Cafe, a Belfast-based cafe, has also opened its doors. The two establishments offer a mix of cocktails, coffee, and Irish-inspired dishes in the heart of Austin’s historic district.

The Dead Rabbit, known for its award-winning cocktails, is a welcome addition to the area, offering a more elevated drinking experience compared to the traditional shot bars on Dirty Sixth. The bar manager, Brittany McMillan, highlights the unique cocktails available, such as the Usquebach and the Austin-specific Lawn Dart, which showcase a blend of flavors and spirits.

Next door, Neighbourhood Cafe serves up coffee, pastries, and light bites in a cozy setting adorned with curated pieces that capture modern day Ireland. The cafe’s ties to Dead Rabbit’s managing partner, Jack McGarry, add a personal touch to the overall experience.

During our visit, we sampled the tiramisu latte at Neighbourhood Cafe before heading over to The Dead Rabbit for some classic Irish-American pub fare, including corned beef sliders and sausage rolls. Of course, we couldn’t pass up their famous frozen Irish coffee and a pint of Guinness to complete the experience.

Looking ahead, The Dead Rabbit plans to utilize the Neighbourhood space for private events and overflow during busy weekends. Live music and comedy events are also on the horizon, adding to the vibrant cultural scene of Downtown Austin. With its Dublin-inspired vibes, The Dead Rabbit is set to become a permanent fixture on Sixth Street, offering a new and exciting option for locals and visitors alike.
