The Austin Police Department has revealed the identity of the victim involved in a recent homicide in north Austin. The victim was identified as Chup Prum, a 57-year-old individual who tragically lost his life in the incident that took place on July 24 outside a restaurant located at 10901 N. Lamar Boulevard.
The authorities received a call reporting a robbery at around 10:30 p.m. on the night of the incident. The caller informed the police that they were being threatened with a knife during the attempted robbery. In self-defense, the caller shot the person wielding the knife, who then fled the scene. Following the call, Robbery Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists arrived at the location to conduct a thorough investigation and gather information from witnesses.
According to the investigation conducted by the police, the caller, whose identity remains undisclosed, had stepped outside the restaurant when they encountered Prum riding a bicycle. Prum allegedly brandished a knife and approached the caller in a threatening manner. In response, the caller pulled out a gun and fired at Prum, who then rode away on his bicycle after being shot. Prum was later found and taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 28.
