The US technology company Arthur Grand Technologies got into trouble because of a racist job advertisement. The company was only looking for “US-born white citizens”.

US technology company Arthur Grand Technologies has agreed to pay a fine of more than $38,000 (around €34,000) after publishing a job advertisement that was deemed racist, the Guardian reported. The ad, placed on Indeed.com, restricted applicants to “US-born [white] citizens within 60 miles of Dallas only.”

The blatant disregard for protections against discrimination based on race, color, or national origin sparked outrage across many social media and news outlets. Within two months, the U.S. Department of Justice launched an investigation into the company.

CNN quotes a Justice Department press release: “It is shameful that in the 21st century we still see employers advertising job openings only to whites and only to American-born people, shutting out otherwise eligible applicants of color.”

Arthur Grand Technologies CEO Sheik Rahmathullah said a disgruntled employee posted the ad without permission from a personal email address and account.

The Guardian further reported that as part of the agreement with government authorities, Arthur Grand agreed to train its employees on the Immigration and Nationality Act, which prohibits discrimination based on nationality and national origin in the hiring, firing or recruitment of workers.
