The Ru film continues to compete with American blockbusters at the Quebec box office.
In its second week on screen, the adaptation of Kim Thúy’s novel maintained its third position in the list of films that generated the most revenue in Quebec, according to Cinéac.
Ru took in some $313,000 between December 1 and 7, just a few thousand less than Napoleon ($319,000) and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Serpent and the Songbird ($388,000), which sit at the top of the charts.
In theaters since November 24, the film Ru tells the story of the young Vietnamese Tinh and her family, accepted as refugees in Canada. The little girl, shy by nature, must adapt to her new life, in Granby, after a trying journey. The film is directed by Charles-Olivier Michaud and stars the young Chloé Djandji.
The top 10 also includes children’s films, with Trolls 3: New Tour in fourth place ($206,000) and The Wish: Asha and the Lucky Star in fifth place ($172,000).
For its first week on screen, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé did well, grossing $105,000. The nearly 3-hour musical film traces the story of Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour.
The rest of the top 10 is occupied by Silent Vengeance, The Marvels, Godzilla Minus One and Thanksgiving.
