(Rome) Film legend Sophia Loren is recovering from successful surgery for a broken leg after a fall at her home in Switzerland, Andrea Giusti, who represents the 89-year-old Italian actress, said Monday.
Andrea Giusti said in an email that Ms. Loren fell in a bathroom on Sunday and the operation was performed later that day. The operation “went very well and all that remains is to wait (for his recovery),” Andrea Giusti said.
The actress broke her hip and a thigh bone, it was reported.
It was not yet known when Ms. Loren would be released from the hospital.
Ms. Loren has lived for decades in a Swiss villa near Lake Geneva. Earlier this month, she appeared beaming with Italian designer Giorgio Armani in Venice at a fashion show held on the sidelines of the city’s annual film festival.
She celebrated her 89th birthday last week. She was scheduled to perform at a restaurant named after her in Bari, a city in southern Italy, but her fall forced the cancellation of the event. According to Andrea Giusti, Ms. Loren gave the restaurant the right to use her name and likeness.
