A trailer for Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki’s new animated feature film was unveiled on Wednesday, a day before its presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Launched in July in Japan, The Boy and the Heron will hit North American screens on December 8.

It is the first feature film in a decade for the director, who in 2003 won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature with Spirited Away. In 2013, after the publication of The Wind Rises, Hayao Miyazaki had even announced his retirement before reconsidering his decision a few years later.

Set in the 1940s, The Boy and the Heron follows a young boy who discovers an abandoned tower from which he enters a fantasy world where he meets a great blue heron.
