The Board of Directors of Québec Cinéma announced on Wednesday the appointment of Dominique Dugas as general manager of the organization created in 2011. He succeeds Sylvie Quenneville and will begin his term on September 4.

This is a homecoming for Mr. Dugas. He was previously curator at the Cinémathèque québécoise, then director of programming and director of Rendez-Vous Québec Cinéma, from 2007 to 2018. For the past four years, he directed Éléphant, the platform that digitizes the repertoire of Québec cinema.

“Dominique Dugas is highly respected and has always been appreciated by people in the industry. He therefore seemed to us to be the ideal person to take on the general management of Québec Cinéma and help develop the talents of the solid team in place,” said Patrick Roy, chairman of the board of directors of Québec Cinéma, in a press release.

“Anyone who knows me knows how much the defense and influence of Quebec cinema is important to me,” said Mr. Dugas. The accessibility of Quebec cinema throughout the territory, the challenge of reaching the public more broadly in this era of audience fragmentation, the urgency of making films accessible to younger generations through their school careers and promoting our cinema as a source of national pride: these are all fronts on which I wish to bring Québec Cinéma over the next few years. »

The Gala Québec Cinéma will be broadcast on Noovo on December 10. With Jay Du Temple hosting this 25th edition.
