The editorial staff of film review site Rotten Tomatoes has challenged its readers to find the best director of the past 25 years. The two finalists are Denis Villeneuve and Christopher Nolan. The winner will be known on August 29.
To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Rotten Tomatoes has listed 64 directors who started their career 25 years ago, in 1998. In order to qualify, each director had to have released a first feature film in 1998 (or later). ) and directed at least three films.
In recent weeks, several filmmakers have been eliminated from the race. Among them, we note Damien Chazelle (Whiplash, La La Land, Babylon), Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition), Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman, Babel, 21 Grams) or Bong Joon-ho (Parasite, Memories of Murder ).
